He was so cute here. I felt for him, though. I imagine it was a bit like trying to explain a private joke and laughing hysterically even though no one gets it and so pretending to be really embarrassed and going, “You had to be there!”
The thing about the crimps, too, is that they’re so PERSONAL to Noel and Julian. Whenever they’re bringing them out of the Boosh context, or other people talk about the content of them, they always look so incredibly vulnerable! Noel and Julian will be totally focused on each other when they do a crimp on Jonathan Ross, but the minute it’s over, they’re both visibly shy and embarrassed, like they can’t quite believe they did that in public and realize that everybody else might laugh at them for the wrong reasons. And because the crimps have always been all about intimacy (between Howard and Vince AND Noel and Julian), I think all of that goes double when it’s one of them on their own; the other partner isn’t there to focus it on their little world of two, where crimps make perfect sense, you’re both in on the joke, and nobody will act like you’re a weirdo for doing that.

He does! I just… uh, wow. I can’t stop staring at this photo. There’s just something really kind of intimate-feeling about that body language, and I’ve never seen Simon quite that way, and uh… I don’t know how to feel about this! I mean, it’s awesome. BUT WHAT DO I MAKE OF THIS?
